Avery, Age 9
West Sand Lake Elementary
One day, on September 5, 2005, Ellie started school, and she met her teacher, Mrs. Red. Mrs. Red was very nice on the first day of school, but as the school day went on, she got to know Ellie better. As she got to know Ellie better, she got meaner and meaner. Mrs. Red always taught no more and no less than she was supposed to, but she always went the extra step to give Ellie a bad grade. The second day of school, Mrs. Red got everyone into a group and asked everyone’s names. When she got to Ellie, Ellie said, “Hi, my name is Elizabeth, but you can call me Ellie. I am 17 years old and my favorite thing to do in my spare time is ride my horse, Spirit.”
Ellie felt proud of herself after she said her speech. At the end of the day, she rode the bus home and when she got home, she did her homework. Then she had a half an hour until her dinner was ready, so she rode her horse in that spare time. For dinner she had chicken pot pie. Ellie loved chicken pot pie so she sid, “Oh, my God! Thank you mama, thank you papa. I love chicken pot pie right up and asked, “ May I be excused?”
“Yes, Ellie, you may be excused, but don’t get in any mischief,” said Ellie’s mama.
“Okay,” said Ellie. The next day like usual Ellie ate her breakfast, almost missed the bus, and got to school.
“When I got to school, I saw Mrs. Red, and she seemed different. Really different. Like--she liked me?” said Ellie suspiciously.
“Something sketchy is going on here, and I intend to find out what it is, “ said Ellie. So the whole school day went by really slowly because all she was thinking about was how she was going to find the real Mrs. Red, but she didn’t know how. That night, Ellie skipped supper because she needed to look for the real Mrs. Red. The next day Ellie went to school and met a new friend, she was in Ellie’s class and was a top student in stealth class. Score! Her name was Ava. So that night they both went out into a cave at 8:00 p.m. to look for Mrs. Red. After hours and hours of looking for Mrs. Red, they found nothing but super cool hieroglyphics from 6,000 years ago. So the next day they took them to their science teacher, Mr. Brown. He took a look at them and said, “Whoa, girls, where did you find those? Scientists in the State Museum have been trying to find these hieroglyphics for two whole decades!”
“Okay!” said Ellie and Ava at the same time.
So the next morning before school, they both met up at the Town Park and went to the State Museum, and asked the employee that worked there if the museum was looking for this and he said, “Oh my God. Yes we need that! We will pay you $10,000 for each one of those!”
The next day, Ellie and Ava went to school, went to Ellie’s locker, and then talked about the hieroglyphics. Ellie said, “We still haven’t found the real Mrs. Red.”
“Tonight after school we should meet at your house and look for Mrs. Red,” said Ava.
That night, they went to look for Mrs. Red everywhere they could possible think of: the school basement, the town library, the town greenhouse, and much much more. They did not find MRs. Red anywhere! They were both in the basement of the school when--- “Shoooooush!”
“What was that?” asked Ellie. “I don’t know, but I’m taking a wild guess that it is the wind and there’s a tornado. After all, we live in Kansas and a lot of tornadoes happen here!” said Ava frightened.
It was that moment when the wind picked up to about 150 miles per hour and the windows shattered and the ground shook! “ I can hear nearby houses and cars shattering and breaking!” yelled Ellie over the sound of the wind.
“If I don’t make it, I want you to know you are the best friend I’ve ever had and I have never ever lied to you!!!” said Ava.
“ Ava! Don’t talk like that. We will be okay!” After two hours, the tornado finally stopped.
“Ellie! Are you okay?”
“Yeah, I think I just have a minor headache from all the wind, said Ellie. They both got up and started looking for Mrs. Red. “Ellie what is squirming over there in the shadow?” asked Ava.
“Oh my gosh, you just found Mrs. Red!” So they untied Mrs. Red and got out of the school basement and went to Mrs. Red’s classroom, and the fake mrs. Red was there, and so Elie said to Ava, “Hide, Mrs. Red, and I will talk to the fake one.” So Ellie walked over to the fake Mrs. Red.
“Hey, Mrs. Red, I’d like to bring you somewhere and who you something.”
“Where are you going, and is it fun?” asked the fake Mrs. Red to close her eyes, so she did.
They went in and Ellie and Ava said at the same time to the police officer, “So this woman is our teacher Mrs. Red and this woman right here was pretending to be Mrs. Red, so she would get our real teacher’s teaching money.”
“Okay, I will arrest her with charges, “ said the officer.
“Thank you for your help, Ava, and I hope we can be friends forever,” said Ellie.
“Me too!” said Ava. Now that ws the end of the story, but don’t worry there will be more...
