Fish Friends

Do you have a favorite pet?  I do! I’ll give you some clues.  It can’t walk, but it does have a tail.  It doesn’t make noise, but it can hear noises.  It never needs to take a bath.  Okay, fine.  I’ll tell you…it’s a fish!

Let’s jump into the tank and learn more about how fish are great pets.

First, let’s learn more about fish.  Most people that I interviewed said their favorite fish is the beta fish.  Not the tuna fish …the beta fish!  People like them because they’re colorful and also because they keep you company and fish are easy to take care of.

Did you know you could train your fish to do all kinds of tricks?  I train my fish to go through hoops.  When I put my finger to the top of the tank, Bubs (my fish) comes up.  Then I pet her.  That’s why I think fish are such cool pets.  You can train your fish too.

I think fish are great pets because you don’t have to give them a lot of attention.  And all you have to do is clean the tank.  You have to feed the fish.  That’s also why I think fish are great pets.

Some of the fourth graders that I interviewed said they like fish because “they don’t jump on you like dogs do,” also they said they liked fish because, “they are quiet when you are sleeping.”  Other kids said, “they keep you company,” and, “they make funny faces.”

So now swim into your local pet store and buy a fish.  If you want to, you can learn more from your fish person at the fish store and you may think they’re a great pet too!
