Getting ready for summer?

These three book reviews will help you make just the right decision when choosing a beach read, rainy-day read, or anytime read!

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows by J.K. Rowling

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is the best book I ever read— so far.  It’s very exciting, and it has more action than any of the other Harry Potter books.  It all starts out when The Order of the Phoenix comes to take Harry to safety.  Just as they get out of the house they are attacked by Death Eaters.  Everyone in the Order disguises themselves as Harry so the Death Eaters don’t know who to follow.  Then the Death Eaters find the real Harry and Lord Voldemort attacks him.  Then Golden Fire comes out of Harry’s wand without him saying a spell.  The wizarding world changes since Lord Voldemort took over the Ministry of Magic and Hogwarts.  Harry, Ron and Hermione try to destroy Horcruxes to make Voldmort weaker.  They also learn about the three Deathly Hallows, and that Harry is a descendant of the people who owned the Hallows.  They have to go from place to place to get away from Lord Voldemort.  Harry, Ron and Hermione learn about Dumbledore as a child and his family.  They break into Hogwarts, and the D.A.(Dumbledore’s Army), and the Order of the Phoenix fight all the Death Eaters.  Then Harry and Lord Voldemort face off for the last time.

Eragon, by Christopher Paolini

Dragons, elves, dwarves, humans and a whole bunch of other fantastical creatures have roles in Christopher Paolini’s New York Times bestseller Eragon.
The main character is Eragon, a young farm boy living in land called Alagaesia, ruled by a cruel king named Galbatorix.  When Eragon finds and unusual egg while hunting, he never guesses that this egg would change his life forever.  When the egg hatches, a dragon named Saphira emerges.  Together they embark on a perilous journey involving magical creatures called Urguls, a powerful magician, and more.

Helping him along the way is Brom, a storyteller with many secrets.  Together they cross the dangerous Hadarac desert from Carvahall to the Farthern Dur where the Varden who oppose Galbatorix reside.  Once there Eragon must fight an epic battle against Urguls and slay an evil Shade.

I really liked this book because of its fast action and great cliffhangers.  It is an adventurous tale with lots of imaginative twists.  If you enjoyed this book as much as I did, I would recommend Eldest, the second in Paolini’s Inheritance trilogy.
